Unit Code: CUVDSP15A Research and Apply the techniques for application to spatial design


BRIEF 1: 50% of module
Design and construct a storyboard and model for a shop interior to stock and promote your streetwear label.


Your storyboard should include:

• logo proposals for the shop that can be used for signage interior or exterior (wall, floor or suspended)
Brainstorming and conceptual development for visual identity will begin in this class and be developed and completed in interpret brief class with Clea.
• sketches and floor plans of proposed interior showing window display, change room, merchandise display, furniture and service counter placement to scale 1:20
• collage of images from magazines, scans and brochures, to create " feel."
• samples of finishes wherever possible e.g.upolstery, fabric, leather, flooring, wall treatment for etc
• design and samples for service bar - form and surface treatment e.g.ply, laminex, pressed metal, skin, mosaic, photographic, etc
• samples for wall surfaces and treatments eg. wallpaper, timber, painted finish, stucco, mural, mosaic, stucco, bagged, limewash, etc
• samples and info for floor treatment eg. cork, tiles, carpet, terrazzo, stone, floorboards, timber,marqetry, parquetry, rubber, etc
colour palette colour charts, colour chips, etc arranged in proportionate use

storyboard process:

• Collect samples, photos, magazine cuttings, swatches for surface treatment to walls, floors, service bar, seating, logos,
• Arrange samples , photos, magazine cuttings, swatches into a balanced composition on A2 or an equivalent combination
Position with blutak initially until final positioning has been decided.
• Use appropriate glues to adhere samples to the backing board
• Provide a legend or key on the reverse of storyboard to avoid visual clutter
• Label samples in the storyboard e.g "viva" unglazed terracotta italian floor tile $55 sq /m handwritten or typeset available at...

Construct model with a sheet of foamcore.

You will be provided with a sheet of foamcore

  • Floor size A3 and walls minimum of 200mm high. 
  • Use scale 1:20  

    Your design should include:
  • a service bar- point of sale counter
  • change rooms
  • entry door types
  • flooring surface treatment.
  • wall surface treatment.
  • signage
  • seating
  • window display area
  • merchandise display areas
  • point of sale displays for window dressing, suspended etc
